DIY Wooden Squat Rack
DIY Squat Rack with Bench Press

Squats, deadlifts, and barbell presses are the best all-around compound exercises you can do for your body. They work the entire body including the chest, legs, back, core, and stabilizer muscles.
When you workout for a while you will get stronger and will need a squat and bench rack for your home gym.

One way is to purchase a good squat rack or power cage so that you can go heavy safely. There are many options but they are not cheap.

The second option is building your own squat rack using wood and some basic materials. During the Covid-19 quarantine, I built my own wooden DIY squat rack with a very small cost and want to show the end result. I will also make a detailed step by step instruction in the near future.

Here are some photos of the DIY rack and the materials and tools I used. The bench and the weight plate tree is also DIY and I have been using them for a year now.

The Foot, I used many L-shaped metal brackets

The most important items and materials for the rack are;

  • L shaped metal corner brackets (brass and steel)
  • Stainless Steel Hex Bolts for the barbell rest (link)
  • 2 in. x 6 in. Construction Stud Wood (link)
  • 16 Oz Fluid Acrylic Paints Color: Carbon Black and Orange (link)
  • A cordless drill and a Bosch electric Jigsaw (link) (link)
  • Lots of screws

Hope this will inspire you to build your own DIY squat rack, I did not give the exact measurements since they are very related to your height. Also keep the safety in mind, if you will go really heavy use thicker wood or buy a steel power rack.
